Chinese tech giant, Xiaomi has unveiled a smart Glasses concept with a built-in microLED display. The new concept offers several features including calling, navigation, and a camera for taking pictures and live translation. The Smart eyewear can function without a smartphone as it is a standalone device.
Xiaomi’s smart glass has a tiny microLED display of 2.4mm×2.02mm size and a peak brightness of 2 million nits. Xiaomi has opted for microLED imaging technology over OLED due to its higher pixel density, simple structure, and longer lifespan. The smart Glasses display ensures clear vision even in harsh direct sunlight. However, Smart Glasses can be used by customers to view notifications, picking phone calls, to respond text messages if it is connected to a smartphone. It will only show the most important push notifications to minimize unnecessary interruptions. The smart Glasses can also be used for navigation, taking pictures and translating texts even if it is not connected to a smartphone. In a nutshell, Smart Glasses act not as a secondary smartphone display but as an independent smart wearable. The whole smart glass weighs only 51 grams.
The features incorporated by the Smart Glasses are an unspecified quad-core ARM-based processor, a wireless module with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, battery, dual microphones, speakers for calls, and a 5MP camera. The speakers and mics in the device help in providing real-time audio translation. The Smart Glass also has an indicator light that shows when the camera is in use.
As of now, Xiaomi has no plans on selling these smart glasses, and shared videos of the brand suggest its arrival soon. However, if it is launch in near future it will compete against the newly launched glasses by Facebook and ray-ban glasses
