YouTube rolled out the option to download videos to view them offline in 2014 for Indian users. The latest update of YouTube app seems to cover the largest number of countries by far, totaling to 125 countries.
The feature of making Youtube videos available offline is definitely very useful but it has some drawbacks as well. First of all, not all videos support this feature and many can’t be downloaded. Secondly, the videos which are available offline remain only for 48 hours and will be there only if it connects to a network. Also, the videos can be downloaded only through the app on mobile and not on a computer.
Youtube Red, which is a paid subscription service, is another service which has allowed viewing of offline videos since it’s release in 2015. Currently, it is available only in US, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.
