Right after the trend of Android smartphones, we are seeing quite number of smartphones having Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor. These processors are very important part for Android phones. As other processors like MediaTek & spreadtrum don’t perform that well, processors like Exynos & Kirin are restricted to Samsung & Huawei/Honor respectively. After launching the Snapdragon 630 & 660 chipset in May, Qualcomm is back with there budget processor, Snapdragon 450. So let’s see what are the features as well as internals of this chipset.
This Snapdragon 450 Processor is an octa core processor clocked at 1.8Ghz based on ARM Cortex A53 architecture. It has Adreno 506 GPU which seems to be very slight bump over the Adreno 505 that was present on the predecessor SoC Snapdragon 435. But Qualcomm claims that by tweaking thermals & boosting up clock speed a bit, Adreno 506 can give 25% more faster performance. The Snapdragon 450 is the 1st processor in 400 line-up which supports Dual Camera functionality, but can support only the bokeh effect feature. Now some other features of this chipset are support for Quick Charge 3.0 , display resolution upto 1080p, USB 3.0, download speed of 300mbps via X9 baseband, and video recording upto 1080p @ 60fps.
Now coming to the USP of this processor, it is built on power efficient 14nm FinFET manufacturing process that’s present on most power efficient Qualcomm processor Snapdragon 625, which is the favourite budget to midrange processor from 2016 to the launch of Snapdragon 630. This is an huge & important upgrade over the predecessor Snapdragon 435, which was built on 28nm process. Now the Snapdragon 450 will also be a very power efficient processor as it’s not as powerful as Snapdragon 625.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. We can expect this processor to come with devices in 4th quarter of this year. Also expect this process in some of the successors like Redmi 5, Lenovo K7 line-up and Motorola’s next budget line-up (Maybe E, C or G6). Stay tuned with us for more information.
