This year we have seen some very interesting, powerful and innovative smartphones in this category like modular design, and power pack flagship performance. This category is not as competitive as the Budget segment or under ₹15,000 but among the phones that we have chosen, it’s little difficult to choose one best phones. In this category, we have selected phones between the price tag of ₹15,000 to ₹30,000. So without wasting any more time, let’s have a look at the Top 5 Mid-range Smartphones:

1. OnePlus 3/3T:
After the failure of OnePlus 2 back in 2015, OnePlus made an incredible comeback this year with their flagship OnePlus 3. Right after the launch, OnePlus 3 became one of the most popular Android phone in India. With the monster 6GB RAM, Snapdragon 820 processor and OnePlus’s great software optimization, OnePlus 3 became one of the most fluid and powerful phone of this year beating many flagships that costs more than twice the price of OnePlus 3. OnePlus also used there own proprietary Dash Charge technology in this phone that made OnePlus 3 one of the fastest charging phone this year. This is a true Flagship at this cost or best value for money smartphone this year. Apart from camera, it beats many flagships of tier one brands. It also has one of the most quickest fingerprint sensor. After 5 months of the launch, OnePlus announced it’s slightly upgraded version named as OnePlus 3T. This phone comes with 10% better processor, better front camera resolution, slightly larger battery, new color and 2 storage variant. As we ranked both the devices on first as it’s not any upgrade for existing OnePlus 3 users. Both phones are available exclusively on Amazon India at ₹28,000 and 3T at ₹30,000 for 64GB variant.

2. Moto Z Play:
This year Moto launched one of the most innovative smartphones Moto Z and Moto Z Play, but we are mentioning only Moto Z Play here as Moto Z cost Rs.40,000. The innovation that I am talking about is the Moto Mods. These Moto Mods simply stick to the back of the phone with the magnetic dots. There are four mods available that are Camera Mod, Projector Mod, Battery Mod and JBL speakers. The mods are a bit costly but they are something new and innovative. We expect more devices and mods in future at a cheaper price. So apart from mods, this Moto Z Play is one of the most power pack phone in this category with the combination of 3510 mah battery, Snapdragon 625 processor based on 14nm process and Moto’s Software optimization, this phone gives insane battery life. It’s also future proof with the expandable storage upto 2TB. This phone became one of the most practical phone of 2016. Moto Z Play is available on Amazon India and Flipkart at the price of ₹24,999.

3. Xiaomi Mi5:
Xiaomi launched Mi5 this year with some very decent specs like Snapdragon 820, 16MP Camera with 4-axis OIS and the beautiful compact design. Though everyone is expecting that OnePlus 3 and Mi5 will become one of the most competitive phone among each other, but OnePlus defeated Mi5, that’s because Xiaomi launched only the base variant of Mi5 that comes with under clocked CPU, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage with no microsd card slot. With this combination and the heavy MIUI, Mi5 failed to become the performance beast. But apart from that, Mi5 is a very good option for those who are casual user and want a feature rich UI. It’s the best looking phone in this category with the compact screen size of 5”. The curved glass back looks beautiful. This phone also has one of the best camera under this category. This phone was launched at Rs.24,999 but after some months Xiaomi reduce it’s price to ₹22,999. It’s available on Flipkart and Mi.com.

4. Lenovo Z2 Plus:
This year Lenovo Launched there Mid-range Flagship ‘Z2 Plus’. This phone is a performance beast and one of best gaming phone in this category and under Rs.20,000. This phone is one of the cheapest phones out there with Snapdragon 820 processor. It has a compact 5” display with fiber glass back but it’s a thicker phone compared to it’s competitors. It’s predecessor Zuk Z1 has Cyanogen OS but this time Lenovo decided to use there own Zuk OS with Google now launcher. The battery life is also good on this phone. This phone also has inbuilt fitness trackers like step counter. The camera is also decent on this phone, nothing special here. The fingerprint sensor is place on the front, the fingerprint button also acts as a multi functional key like going back, home, access recent tabs, slide left or right to multitask, etc. But the place where this Z2 Plus fails is in the software optimization. The software optimization is not that great on this phone. But as it’s a new OS we can expect this. Last year OnePlus’s oxygen OS also turned out to be unstable on OnePlus 2 but they fixed it later. This Lenovo Z2 Plus is priced at ₹17,999 for 3GB/32GB variant and ₹19,999 for 4GB/64GB variant. Do note that there’s no Sdcard support. Lenovo Z2 Plus is available exclusively on Amazon India.

5. Lenovo Vibe X3:
Lenovo launched Vibe X3 in India on January this year. Well this phone has an old but still a powerful Snapdragon 808 processor. This phone is especially for Audiophiles as it has a dedicated Wolfson WM8281 headphone DAC with Dolby Atmos. It also has front firing speakers that has very clear and loud sound. The screen quality is also pretty good as it has 5.5” 1080p screen with 100% NTSC color gamut and 1500:1 contrast ratio. The battery life is also good and smooth gaming too. It also has Lenovo’s proprietary theater max technology for better VR experience. This phone only has two cons, first the UI is not well optimized and second the camera is below average. And I consider it as the most underrated smartphone of 2016. This phone went out of stock few months ago but if it again comes in stock, then also it is a good buy for audio lovers. This phone was launched exclusively on Amazon India and carries a price tag of ₹19,999.
