Apple is announcing or unveiling their new software releases in WWDC event, including WatchOS 5 and MacOS Mojave. Now apart from these two OS Apple also announced iOS 12, the most awaiting software of this event. Well, why not? As iOS is one of the most popular OS in the globe. So let’s see what this new iOS 12 packs in.
-
Performance:

This time Apple’s main focus for iOS 12 is on performance. According to company stats, this iOS 12 will be 40% faster in launching apps. The camera app will open 70% faster, keyboard pop-up will be 50% faster, and 2x faster app launches while on heavy workloads like intense gaming or rendering.
-
FaceTime:
Same as MacOS Mojave, the new FaceTime change will take place even on iOS 12. Now you can video chat with up to 32 people together. As said before, it will be supported on all Apple platforms like iPhone, iPad, Mac, and even in Apple Watch.
-
Memoji:
Now, this is a fun thing with AR. Last year Apple bought Animojis with iPhone X, which creates virtual emojis by scanning your face. Now with iOS 12, you will not just create animojis, but you can customize it too. Now change colour of every aspect in animoji, and add extra stuffs like lenses on to the eyes.
-
New Animoji:
Apart from customizing Animojis, Apple also brings four new Animojis in their ecosystem. These four Animojis are in different design, like Koala, Ghost, Tiger, and T-Rex.
-
Augmented Reality:
With iOS 12, Apple wants to improve the Augmented Reality on to their devices. They release the ARKit 2 for developers to develop even more high-quality content. Apple also releases a new app named as ‘Measure’ which measures the real-world objects by pointing the camera towards the object.
-
Screen Time:
So finally Apple bought Screen Time into their iOS ecosystem. But wait, don’t get confused with Screen Time and screen on time. As this Screen Time is not related to battery stats, this relates to the usage. Now we can set timers for any app to be opened for a particular time in a day. For example now don’t let your kid play games for more than 1 hour, set the timer of 1 hour daily and it will give notifications regarding the same.
-
Enhanced Notification:
The notification panel is now more optimized for iOS 12. Now the notifications are arranged in groups, based on the apps, type of notifications, etc. This one is pretty similar to Android’s notification, but the arrangement according to the type of notification is something different.
-
Do Not Disturb:
The Do Not Disturb in iOS 12 not just keeps unwanted notifications away from us, but it also keeps us away from notifications. Now it supports the timer DND notification which hides the notifications from lock screen for the particular period of time. For example, you won’t see any notification during your sleep time, just the timer and other basic information which won’t distract you.
-
Photo Sharing:
With this new OS, the device will automatically detect the memorable moments throughout the images, and then arranges them in ‘For You’ tab. And those images are easily shareable with other iOS 12 users.
-
Siri Shortcuts:
Siri also got some enhancements. The major change Siri got with iOS 12 is Shortcuts. Now make the shortcuts of some of your commands which you use in frequent manner. For example if you book Uber daily via Siri and sets a shortcut, then Siri will remind you to book the cab if you don’t book the same on daily timing.
Other features include redesigned apps and more privacy securities.
- Support & Availability:
iOS 12 will be supported on all Apple devices running iOS 11. So iPhones from iPhone 5s and iPads launched after 2013 will get this new OS. It will be available later this fall.
