The impact of technology can be visible in the smartphone industry as smartphones are now becoming a piece of innovation instead of a necessity as nowadays, we are using devices with heavy specifications and premium technologies. The display is one of the biggest examples of innovations, as the smartphone brands are offering devices with OLED and AMOLED display and the same is something very premium and awesome to see the contents. It is worth mentioning that this kind of display technology is common in televisions and computers. Many people have doubts on their mind about the difference between the OLED and AMOLED displays. Well, today I will deal with this topic in the latest article of the Akhil Explains series and I hope this will help you to understand more about the display technologies and the differences between the two. So without making any further delay let’s get into the article to check out the differences between OLED and AMOLED displays.
What is OLED?
Before understanding the difference between the two, let’s know each other. Well, the full form of.OLED is “Organipc Light Emitting Diodes” and the technology actually works like conventional diodes and LEDs, and the same offers a series of thin organic films that will provide rich and vibrant colours with much darker blacks.
The organic compounds emit light whenever the current passes through it and the OLED displays are insanely thin, more flexible, and very small that will enable it to see individual pixels. Well, that means the OLED panel is capable to offer excellent picture quality, and the same offers deep blacks to deliver accurate colours and gain an infinite contrast ratio.
What is AMOLED?
AMOLED stands for “Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode” and the same is backed by an active matrix system that attaches a thin film transistor (TFT) and the tech will control the flow of current to each and every pixel and the same will offer an exceptional viewing experience. That said, the TFT backplane technology plays a crucial role in AMOLED’s vivid display. Well, we can say that this particular display technology is a perfect setup to view awesome picture quality along with power efficiency and incredible performance.
Difference between OLED and AMOLED
Display of OLED and AMOLED: OLED displays are capable to provide more deep blacks and the same are “always off” by default unless each pixel gets the current individually. While the AMOLED display will not be that much visible in the direct sunlight condition. are not as quite visible in direct sunlight.
Working of OLED and AMOLED: OLED displays are coming with a very thin film and the same is having organic compounds in an emissive electroluminescent layer and that produces the current. It is worth mentioning that the organic compounds are sandwiched between the protective layers of glass or plastic. On the other hand, AMOLED is featuring a matrix of OLED pixels and that is also having an extra layer of TFTs between them, and the same can able to provide more control over the flow of current into each and every pixel.
Contrast Ratio for OLED and AMOLED: The light emitters which are available in an OLED display is able to be turned off and that will provide a higher level of control over each pixel, and that will provide deeper blacks which results in excellent contrast ratio which ultimately results in much deeper blacks and an excellent contrast ratio. While the AMOLED displays feature a high refresh rate but the down point in this technology is that cannot be visible in a good manner under the sunlight.
Size: OLEDs are very thin and can able to provide bright as well as efficient displays. On the other hand, AMOLED has large display sizes and the same can produce a faster refresh rate.
Conclusion
Display is the most crucial element of smartphone or laptop and the same is actually a window to the device as well because we see everything via display and both OLED and AMOLED displays are great and both can able to provide rich colours and amazing viewing experiences but I think AMOLED is better as AMOLED is a type of OLED and a more prominent example of both OLED and POLED.
