The developer preview of the upcoming Android 16 is officially released and the same is now available for developers. It is confirmed that the upcoming Android 16 will come with a new photo picker feature for better media privacy of app permissions. The beta version of Android 16 is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2025.

Google is currently testing the APIs in Android 16 and the same will enable the developers to utilise the core of the next generation Android operating system. It is confirmed that the upcoming Android 16 will come with a photo picker function and that will enable users to provide permission for only to the selected number of media files without offering access to the entire Media Library of the device. This particular feature will work for both local as well as cloud storage.
Next up, Health Records and this will enable the Health Connect app to read and write medical records in FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources). It will allow medical authorities, friends and families, and others to access your fitness information if needed. This particular feature will request consent from the user.
Privacy Sandbox is the next feature of the upcoming Android 16 and the same will offer the best level of encryption and safety for private user data on Android devices.
