The new security problem is coming through an MP4 file and if someone sent you a video which is in the format of the MP4, then be careful against downloading it as hackers may use the critical vulnerability in the file and this will allow them to hands-on many data of your device, the problem is on both the Android as well as iOS platform.
Speaking about the new issue, the specially designed MP4 file triggers the remote code execution (RCE) and denial of service (DoS) cyber-attack. This is a serious problem because the MP4 file is usually a video file and WhatsApp downloads the media automatically if it is connected with Wi-Fi and the users also download every new video in which they receive via the instant messaging application. And this makes things easier for hackers to steal various information from millions of users.
How to be safe
To safeguard yourself, you have to do certain things in your application and first of all, you need to change the settings of media and don’t allow the application to download media automatically. You can change this by heading to the Settings menu, then tap on Data and storage usage, now go to Media Auto-Download, where you will get three options: When Using Cellular Data, When Connected on Wi-Fi and When Roaming, now you need to disable auto-downloads by unchecking all the options such as Images, Audio and Video. And also check for the new version of the instant messaging application in Google Play Store, once you receive the latest version of the update then update it immediately.
