According to the tipster, Jon Prosser, Apple is planning to rename their mobile Operating System from iOS to iPhone OS. This decision could bring more clarity to the naming convention of Apple Services and Products. If the rumor is true we could see an official announcement as early as this month.
iPhone OS.

Regarding the tweet it was just ‘iPhone OS’ and his followers soon reacted shockingly. Jon Prosser is known for his accuracy in leaking details on iPhone SE 2020, months before the launch. We can verify his claim soon as the Cupertino giant is holding the WWDC keynote 2020 on June 22. The event is supposed to be an online event, and it is the first of its kind by the company.
If this indeed is the case, Apple would be able to streamline and simplify the naming schemes. In this way, they could differentiate the Operating System powering the iPhone from the other OS on their laptops and iPad. If you arent familiar Apple has named the OS for iPad as iPad OS from the start. It helped differentiate the iPad OS as it came with extended multitasking capabilities and support for the Apple Pencil.
Except for the naming difference, the OS would be the same as the iOS that iPhone users know and love. The next iteration would be named iPhone OS 14 instead of iOS 14. Interestingly, its the second time Apple is remaining the OS. Till 2010, the OS for iPhone was known as iPhone OS but the company changed it to iOS from 2010. Now it’d be going back to the original name.
This move could leave iPod out of the OS which was shared by both iPhone and iPod, Is Apple building a separate OS for iPod as well? Or is it scrapping the product as the iPod has become obsolete in today’s age? Our guess is as good as yours. Nevertheless, we can get a confirmation on this matter in a few days. Do you think Apple would rename iOS to iPhone OS? Let us know in the comments below.
