Facebook the social network in giant, is gearing up for a video themed app. Specially for TV set-top boxes. Moreover, the company also planning to licence long form TV content.
According to the source, Facebook is working on a new app which will be a video themed app. The new app is part of Facebook’s overall plan to move to a video first business. Facebook has already pushing live video streaming feature, an app for TV set top boxes like the Android TV based on NVIDIA Shield, it could also generate more ad revenues.
The source says, Facebook may also try to licence out longer form TV content from media’s that could also include TV shows and sports event, and it would be exclusive available on the new app from Facebook. With this move, it’s clear that Facebook now wants to complete head-to-head with the Google’s YouTube. Facebook is testing with adding brief video ads inside the live videos. Not like the YouTube, which shows advertisement before the original video starts. However, Facebook video ads would start 20 seconds after the original video starts. And it would last about 15 seconds.
The source also says, Facebook plans to run ads as the part of all of its videos. But there is no information that the company will allow to turn off the apps by paying an amount of fee, like Google does with its YouTube Red Service.
