It is reported that GitHub has been directed by the Government of India to disable or remove access to two source-code repositories and a releases page for the Bitchat Android application.
The report says that three specified URLs associated with Bitchat have been directed to be removed or disabled within three hours, and the notice has been issued under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, read with Rule 3(1)(d) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

It is worth mentioning that Bitchat is a peer-to-peer encrypted messaging application, and the application has the power of Bluetooth mesh networks for offline communication and does not require accounts, phone numbers, or centralised servers.
