After a lot of leaks and rumors, the Silicon Valley tech giant has finally announced the Google Pixel 5a 5G smartphone. The launch happened surprisingly, without any event. This is the successor to last year’s Pixel 4a 5G. Some things are changed here but some remains the same. Now without further ado, let’s have a look at the specs of this compact elegant Google phone.
Design & Display:
Well, there’s nothing much to talk about the design as it resembles the predecessor. Though it has premium aluminium unibody design, which is a nice upgrade over last year’s polycarbonate back. It is available only in ‘Mostly Black’ color with slight dark green hue. It sports a slightly bigger 6.34-inch Full HD+ OLED Display with HDR10 support. It has features like always-on display, but the refresh rate is 60Hz only, no upgrade here. The display is protected by very old Gorilla Glass 3. But the good thing is that its IP67 certified for dust & water resistance. It weighs at 185 grams and is 7.6mm thin.

Performance:
This Pixel 5a 5G comes with the same Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G 5G chipset with Adreno 620 GPU. Though it’s very good processor, its more than a year old now. Google should have gone with newer Snapdragon 768 instead. Still the performance with stock Android 11 out of the box, alongside 3 major OS updates should be good enough for a regular user. Google has also added it’s Titan M Security Module chip for more security. It has 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB internal storage.

Camera:
Here comes the USP of any Pixel smartphone, its Camera. And sadly, the hardware is unchanged this year. It’s the same 12.2MP primary sensor with f1.7 lens, 1.4µm pixel width, dual pixel PDAF, EIS and OIS. The secondary one is 16MP ultrawide angle sensor with f2.2 lens, 1.0µm pixel width, and 107° FOV. It can record videos up to 4K at 60fps. On the front there’s 8MP sensor with f2.0 lens and 1.12µm pixel width. The front camera can record videos up to 1080p at 30fps. Though the hardware is same, it’s technically very practical and along with Google’s famous image processing, the Pixel 5a 5G can give competition to any flagship out there.

Other Specifications:
The Pixel 5a 5G packs in a 4,680mAh (bigger than 3,140mAh on Pixel 4a 5G) and supports the same 18W fast charging with the same power of Power Delivery support. It has stereo speakers and thankfully still retains the 3.5mm jack. The fingerprint sensor is at the back, which is very secure with Google’s Titan chip inside. For connectivity it has proper 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, aptX HD, and Type-C port. It has one Nano-SIM slot and one E-SIM support.
Pricing & Availability:
- Pixel 5a 5G is priced at $449
- Pre-orders started in USA & Japan now.
- In USA, shipping will start from 26th August.
- No availability information regarding other countries as well.
And that’s the Google Pixel 5a 5G. This device might come to India because the previous Pixel 4a is more than a year old, and maybe Google will ditch the 4G variant of this device now. What are your thoughts on this smartphone? Let us know in the comment section below.
