Google is taking off its landmark instant search which automatically populates search results as the user type it in the search box on the mobile phones.
The instant search feature was first introduced back in 2010.This was developed and rolled out under the guidance of Marissa Mayer who was the company’s vice president of search and user experience then.Google estimated that it would collectively show millions of results as fast as possible. This instant search prevented typing entire query in the search box.Google search happens on mobile phones these days and the instant fast search will not work hereafter on the smartphones. On mobile phones, instant search doesn’t make any sense as the user uses fingers and buttons to navigate in the software, and the result will be loaded on the top of the screen. This was inconvenient to the user with small screen long back.
Google has finally decided to get rid of the instant search feature. This feature is removed to give user better experience while browsing.
”We launched Google Instant back in 2010 with the goal to provide users with the information they need as quickly as possible, even as they typed their searches on desktop devices. Since then, many more of our searches happen on mobile, with very different input and interaction and screen constraints. With this in mind, we have decided to remove Google Instant, so we can focus on ways to make Search even faster and more fluid on all devices”. Said a Google spokesperson.
Hereafter the user no longer have to disable the Instant search feature in the settings. The recommended search results will be powered by Auto-complete will be shown in the drop down menu. This will surely give consistent experience across various devices.
