Amid speculations, OnePlus launched their Flagship Oneplus 5 last week. Keeping the disputes of being so much iPhone ish in design front and overclocking the processor to cheat the benchmarks apart, the phone did quite well to amaze the audience and it is evident from the fact the phone is selling like hotcakes all around the world.
Now, this must’ve triggered other companies to bring in a worthy competition to the rockstar Oneplus 5 and Huawei’s sub-brand honor is all set to launch their next Flagship aka Oneplus 5 rival, the Honor 8 Pro. Let’s take a look at the device’s Specs overview and dissection.
Honor 8 Pro comes with a full metal uni-body construction at 6.97mm thickness and 2.5d curved gorilla glass 5 upfront . Considering the fact , it packs in a 4000mAh battery a 7mm thickness is insane. Good job Huawei. It is worth mentioning that it has a single bottom firing speaker, USB type-C port, a rear fingerprint scanner and a 3.5 mm jack for ceaseless headphone connectivity at the bottom.
The display is a 5.7″ 2k quadHD IPS LCD display with a convincing pixel density of 515 pixels per inch. As it is a quad HD panel, the VR experience must be good in this device as the pixel exposure is less obvious.
For Optics, the device features a dual 12megapixel primary camera with Leica branding on the back. Initial impressions might resemble this with the the Oneplus 5 as it features a dual camera. But except the fact they both feature a dual camera nothing seems similar here.
Unlike the Oneplus 5, the honor 8 Pro comes with a dual 12megapixel camera setup at the back out of which one is an RGB sensor and another one is a monochrome sensor. Huawei claims that the monochrome sensor helps in capturing more details thus providing an overall crisp picture.
The device is powered by Huawei’s own hi-silicon Kirin 960 Octa-Core processor built on 16nm process. It consists of 4×Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and 4×Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. This setup is very similar to the Snapdragon 821 processor so we can expect the Kirin 960 to perform in a similar way.
On the software front the device will run on EMUI 5.1 (Android 7.0) out of the box. EMUI is Huawei’s custom skinned UI but not as skinned as the the MIUI means you can enable the app drawer functionality if you want to. Honor has also made some useful features like Night mode for eye comfort , tweaking up with the color saturation etc.
Certainly, On paper the honor 8 Pro seems a worthy contender to tackle the Oneplus 5. A decent processor, On par camera, better battery life , a humongous storage everything looks fine on paper.
But what would be a deciding factor is the pricing of the device. It is rumored that Honor may price this device around the ₹30k mark, which would be a bang for the buck among the Indian audience.
