Just yesterday Huawei unveiled their own operating system for smartphones, smartwatches, and other smart devices. Though they said that this is not a replacement to Android due to US/China matters, it’s kind of obvious that they should be prepared for their own OS now. Yesterday we did know that Honor will announce a device with this new OS, so they did it today.
Honor has announced Vision TV that’s running on HarmonyOS. This would be very interesting to see a new OS first on TVs rather than smartphones. Not just the HarmonyOS, there are some important hardware which are made by Huawei itself. They are using in-house Honghu 818 processor, AI camera NPU processor, and a high-end Wi-Fi card. This Honghu 818 processor is capable to play High Dynamic Range videos, noise reduction, dynamic contrast, super-resolution, local dimming, and auto colour management.
The Wi-Fi card can touch the speed of up to 1.7Gbps. It is world’s first card to have 160Mhz bandwidth, and supports both 2.4Ghz/5Ghz frequencies. Interestingly, this TV also has a pop-up camera. This camera will support face unlock using the camera NPU processor. It also do body tracking and posture detection. We are expecting this camera to work as normal camera with future updates, which will be beneficial for video calling of whole family or a group of people.
Moving towards the specifications, this is a 55 inch smart TV with 4K resolution and HDR support. It has a screen-to-body ratio of around 94%. It will have 2GB RAM with 16GB or 32GB storage options. Talking about the pricing, the 16GB RAM variant is priced at CNY 3,799 (INR 38,200 approx.), and Pro variant with 32GB variant is priced at CNY 4,799 (INR 48,300 approx.)
So that’s all the information we have as of now. It would be interesting to see how a smart TV with this brand new OS will be compared with Android TV and custom UI like PatchWall OS?
