Huawei P20 & P20 Pro Now Official

Over the past few weeks, we got a tone of leaks and rumours of upcoming smartphones from Huawei’s flagship series, the Huawei P20 series. As of now, we got almost all the information about the smartphones of this series. Now today Huawei launched two new flagship smartphones at an event in Paris i.e. Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. The USP of this series is the revolutionary Triple Camera Setup, which can be found on the Pro variant. Now let’s have a look at the specifications of both the devices.

  • Huawei P20:

This is the smaller sized or I would say slightly lower end phone amongst the two. This Huawei P20 sports a 5.8 inch IPS LCD display with resolution of 2240 x 1080. This display has a panel with new 18.7:9 aspect ratio, which looks strange but maybe it’s due to the notch present at the top of the display. Breaking the tradition of metal back on previous two ‘P’ series phones, this P20 brings the curved glass back with itself and this phone is IP52 certified for splash resistance. It comes with Huawei’s own Kirin 970 octa core processor with Mali-G72 MP12 GPU. It has 4GB of RAM along with 64GB of internal storage which can be expandable via MicroSd Card support. This phone runs on latest Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with their own EMUI 8.1 on top. This phone is packed with 3400mAh battery with Huawei’s Super Charge support.

Talking about the camera, it has Leica powered Dual Rear Camera Setup which has a 12MP RGB sensor with f1.6 lens, OIS, and 1.55 micron pixel whereas secondary camera is a 20MP monochrome sensor with f1.6 lens. It has dual tone LED flash. This camera setup has 4 types of autofocus system: laser, contrast, PDAF, and depth sensor. This camera can recording 720p slow-motion videos at 960fps, which seems to be a trend nowadays. It can also take portrait shots, background effects & lighting, and 2x lossless zoom. Also, the AI technology will give several other features as well. On the front there’s a 24MP shooter with f2.0 lens, and it can take portrait shots and has face unlock feature. And the AI technology will bring more functionalities within.

Regarding connectivity options it has 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, FM Radio, USB Type-C Port, IR Blaster, and NFC. The colour options are the new Twilight, Black, Pink Gold, Champagne Gold and Midnight Blue.

  • Huawei P20 Pro:

This is the bigger and slightly higher end device amongst the two. This Huawei P20 Pro sports a 6.1 inch IPS LCD display with resolution of 2240 x 1080. This display has a panel with new 18.7:9 aspect ratio, which looks strange but maybe it’s due to the notch present at the top of the display. Breaking the tradition of metal back on previous two ‘P’ series phones, this P20 Pro also brings the curved glass back with itself and this Pro variant has IP67 certification for dust and water resistance. It comes with Huawei’s own Kirin 970 octa core processor with Mali-G72 MP12 GPU. It has 6GB of RAM along with 128GB of internal storage which can be expandable via MicroSd Card support. This phone runs on latest Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with their own EMUI 8.1 on top. This phone is packed with 4000mAh battery with Huawei’s Super Charge support.

Now coming to the USP of this phone and also the highlight of this whole event, the Camera or the Triple Camera. For the 1st time in smartphone industry, Huawei bought Triple Camera Setup on the rear side of a smartphone. Talking about the bunch of two cameras, the main camera is a 40MP sensor with f1.8 lens and OIS whereas the secondary camera is an 8MP telephoto sensor with f2.4 lens. The third or the separated camera is a 20MP monochrome sensor with f1.6 lens. Some of the advantage having triple camera setup are 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom, surprising maximum ISO level of 102,400 , quick autofocus, portrait shots, background effects and lighting. It has dual tone LED flash. This camera setup has 4 types of autofocus system : laser, contrast, PDAF, and depth sensor. This camera can recording 720p slow-motion videos at 960fps, which seems to be a trend nowadays. Also the AI technology will give several other features as well.

Pricing and Availability:

  • Huawei P20 is priced at EUR 680 (INR 54,740 or USD 844).
  • Huawei P20 Pro is priced at EUR 900 (INR 72,450 or USD 1117).
  • Both the devices are available globally, though they didn’t mention exactly list of markets.

So that’s all the information we have as of now. Both the devices look pretty interesting, especially the Pro variant that’s just because of the Triple Camera Setup. But if we keep the camera aside, both these devices are sort of near-perfect 2018 flagships smartphone. ‘Near’ perfect because both devices still use the old Bluetooth 4.2, while even last year’s devices use Bluetooth 5.0. But apart from this slight delay in hardware, both phones are beast. Now, what are your thoughts on both these devices? Do share your thoughts in the comment section below.
