As expected, India has now surpassed the United States to become the second largest market for smartphone vendors while China remains undisputed in the No. 1 place.
Out of all the smartphones being sold, 2 companies account for almost half of all the shares. Chinese player Xiaomi and South Korean giant Samsung alone have shipped around 18.6 Million of all the devices being sold across the country, while other vendors like Oppo, Vivo and Lenovo do play a considerable role in the market.
These companies grow at a mind boggling pase as per Canalys, especially Xiaomi. Xiaomi saw increased shipments by a whopping 290 percent this past quarter compared to Q3 of 2016.
As Canalys analyst Rushabh Doshi points out, “Xiaomi’s growth is a clear example of how a successful online brand can effectively enter the offline market while maintaining low overheads,” He adds, “But Xiaomi focuses on the low end. It struggles in the mid-range (devices priced between INR15,000 and INR20,000 [US$230 and US$310]), where Samsung, Oppo and Vivo are particularly strong. Nevertheless, we predict Xiaomi’s continued go-to-market innovations will allow it to overtake Samsung within a couple of quarters.”
So, as the competition intensifies the price gets more cheaper in the customer’s POI. What do you think, let us know down below.
