The Indian smartphone brand Lava and HMD (Nokia) are gearing up to launch D2M (Direct-to-Mobile) services in India and the same will be in a partnership with FreeStream Technologies along with other D2M partners.
This particular step will enable mobile phones to offer live TV streaming without an active data connection or Wi-Fi network. So you can enjoy live TV without an internet connection with the new implementation.
It is also said that HMD has also collaborated with IIT Kanpur and Tejas Networks to support the D2M service. The latest HMD D2M phone will be showcased at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 in Mumbai and the same will be happening on May 1.
Moreover, Sinclair Inc., an American telecommunications company, has also confirmed that the upcoming devices will be using ATSC 3.0 which is the next-generation digital terrestrial television broadcast standard. It is worth mentioning that Sinclair is also working on B2X (Broadcast-to-Everything) technology and this particular technology focuses the future 6G requirements.
The upcoming HMD D2M mobile will feature the SL-3000 chipset and the same is developed by Saankhya Labs. On the other hand, the device of Lava will come with the power of the MediaTek MT6261 mobile processor along with an integrated SL-3000. It will come with a 2,200 mAh battery, and the device will also feature a UHF antenna for TV reception.
