Lenovo Showcased Their New Legion Line-up At CES 2019

Last year Lenovo changed their gaming laptop aesthetics completely with Legion Y530 and Y730. Both these gaming laptops don’t look a bit like a gaming machine, they have a thorough professional as well as student oriented design. This made both laptops the best budget gaming laptops in terms of design last year.

This year at CES event, Lenovo unveiled the successor laptops of both, Legion Y540 and Y740. Along with these company also showcased some gaming accessories as well. So let’s have a look at them, one by one.

1. Lenovo Legion Y540:

This is the budget oriented gaming laptop from Lenovo this year. In terms of design and built, nothing much has changed this year because design is now the USP of Legion laptops. Though Lenovo made some changes here and there like aluminium display hinge. It has 15.4 inch Full HD display with either 144hz panel with 300 nits of brightness, or 60hz panel with Dolby HDR display option which has 500 nits of brightness, HDR, and improved colour accuracy. Maybe in future for some specific markets, Lenovo will launch 60hz panel without Dolby HDR support. Lenovo also claims that it has better cooling system as compared to last year, and battery life up to 6 hours.

Coming to the internal components, this Legion Y540 has option for both Intel Core i5-8300H and Core i7-8750H CPU i.e. same as last year. It has the latest generation Nvidia RTX 2060 GPU with 6GB of V-RAM, which seems to be a significant upgrade than last year’s GTX 1050 and 1050ti. This will have base variant with 8GB RAM which can be expandable up to 32GB. It will have storage options up to 256GB PCIe SSD, 512GB SATA SSD, and 2TB HDD.

2. Lenovo Legion Y740:

This is more of an expensive variant of Legion Y540. From it’s predecessor, it got almost full aluminium body, and Corsair powered RGB lighting in keyboards & some other parts. It has the same display as Legion Y540. But with optional 17 inch model along with 15.4 inch panel. It had Full HD resolution of 144hz refresh rate with 300 nits brightness and 60hz panel with Dolby HDR display is also here with 500 nits of brightness, HDR, and improved colour accuracy. So the display is almost same on both laptops. Lenovo also claims that it has better cooling system as compared to last year, and battery life up to 6 hours.

Talking about the internal, it’s exactly similar to what we are getting from Legion Y540. It has option for both Intel Core i5-8300H and Core i7-8750H CPU i.e. same as last year. It has the latest generation GPU with the option of Nvidia RTX 2060 and RTX 2080 with 6GB of V-RAM.
