Finally, after all the leaks and rumours the South Korean electronics brand LG has officially unveiled its 2018’s flagship smartphone called LG G7 ThinQ. The company has unveiled the device at an event in New York, and the device has two variants – the LG G7 ThinQ and G7+ ThinQ and the difference is in the amount of RAM. So, let’s check out what the LG has kept in its flagship smartphone of this year.
Build
Let’s start with the build of the device, it comes with glass metal construction and the Gorilla Glass 5 is covered on both front and back to give the protection. Which means the users can put the device on a surface without any worry about the scratches. Moreover, the device also has MIL-STD 810G Military Certification and IP68 dust and water resistant.
Display
The LG G7 ThinQ features smaller bezels, and the device sports 6.1 inch QHD+FullVision Super Bright Display with 1000-nits brightness and 564 ppi pixel density, along with an aspect ratio of 19:5:9 and having the resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels, and a notch on the top of the display. The company says the notch as a ‘Second Screen’, and the device allows you to hide the notch and also you can change the colour around the notch to grayscale and rainbow-like gradients.
Inwards
The device is powered by the greatest Snapdragon 845 processor, and why not, the processor is meant for the flagship smartphones, and the device is paired with 4 GB and 6 GB RAM, along with Adreno 630 GPU. Well, the 6 GB RAM variant is called the LG G7+ ThinQ. In terms of storage, the 4 GB RAM variant of the device comes with 64 GB internal storage and the 6 GB RAM variant has 128 GB of internal storage, and if the storage is not enough, then it allows you to expand the storage upto 2 TB via microSD card.
Camera
Moving to the camera department, the LG G7 ThinQ has dual camera setup at the back with the combination of 16 megapixel (Standard) (f/1.6 aperture) + 16 megapixel Super Wide Angle (f/1.9 aperture, 109-degree wide-angle lens). The camera has placed in the centre of the device and it is in the vertical orientation and the LED flash and laser autofocus module have placed to the camera’s left. And the cameras comes with Portrait Mode, Stickers and LED flash. The device also has an 8 megapixel front facing camera with f/1.9 aperture and 80-degree wide-angle lens.
Moreover, the device also comes with AI camera features which support 19 different shooting modes and the AI-based algorithm adjust the settings of the camera automatically to give the better results when you shoot in low-light. Having said that, the camera also features Live Photo mode and supports AR stickers which can generate 2D or 3D overlays or the user’s face.
Connectivity
Talking about the connectivity, the smartphone supports 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0 BLE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, GPS, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C 2.0 and it is 3.1 compatible. It also comes with the Fingerprint Scanner, and Face Recognition to give the ultimate security to the users.
Dedicated button for Google Assistant and Google Lens
As it was reported earlier, the device is coming with a dedicated hardware button which will bring Google Assistant and Google Lens. The button also has pressing pattern like if the user presses the button once then it will launch the Google Assistant and if the user press (quickly) twice then the device will open Google Lens.
The device also has a feature called Super Far Field Voice Recogntion (SFFVR), which is paired with the device’s “highly sensitive microphone”, it will help the Google Assistant to recognize the user’s voice commands from upto five meters away.
Audio
The company always keeps something special in the audio department of its flagship devices, and this time the company has implemented a Boombox Speaker on the LG G7 ThinQ, which utilizes the internal space of the device as a resonance chamber to provide double the bass of conventional smartphones for powerful “boombox” sound even without the need for the external speakers” when placed on solid surface or a box.
Apart from this, the device also comes with DTS:X to give a 3D virtual sound and up to 7.1 channel audio output via headphones. And it also features a Hi-Fi Quad DAC, which is yet another feature to provide the best to the audiophiles.
Software and Battery
The device runs on the latest Android Oreo 8.0 and the entire device is backed on 3,000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0. In terms of colour choices, the device will be available in New Platinum Gray, New Aurora Black, New Moroccan Blue, Raspberry Rose.
Pricing and availability
The pricing of the device is not announced and it will be available in South Korea in coming days and then Latin America, North America, Europe, and Asia.
