According to a new patent filed by the software giant, Microsoft their team is working on a laptop display that is capable of automatically adjusting its position based on the user’s eye judgment. The patent was filed with the European authorities.
As stated by the source, the patent’s layout details how Microsoft is planning to implement the technology that could automate the process of tilting the laptop display to ensure the viewing angle is optimal for the best user experience. In addition, this technology could also adjust the orientation based on the head position of the user. Say for example, when a user is lying on bed, the system could recognize this and keep the orientation steady.
Based on the notes on the patent, this mechanism could entirely work on its own and does not need the user’s input whatsoever. My guess is the front camera will play a role in making sure the system works as it should be, by constantly monitoring the head position of the user. Besides, this mechanism also could make use of its intelligence and estimate the distance from the screen to accurately adjust the lid’s position.
It is unclear, whether we will be able to see this technology inside a laptop or the company will instead use this technology in some futuristic gadget which they might be secretly working on at the moment. The patent application was filed in December 2020 and it got published on the 7th of January.
