Reliance Jio revealed its plans to join with Microsoft in bringing this service to India at the ‘future Decoded’ event in Mumbai held in February.
The service is currently available in Canada, South Korea, the UK and the US.
Microsoft had expressed its desire to launch Project xCloud in the Indian market last November at X019 London. Project xCloud is expected to give fierce competition to Google Stadia, another game streaming service.
Microsoft had told Gadget360 that they are excited to bring the preview of this service later this year and that they are looking to learn a great deal from the Indian gaming community. Furthermore, they revealed that they are in talks with Jio regarding the project.
This partnership came into fruition during the Future Decoded keynote where Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella and the Chairman and M.D of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani shared screen for a televised event. During the event, they discussed the gaming culture in India and the potential of such a cloud gaming service with the current situation of broadband connectivity of India. Even though there is not much news about the project, both companies are actively working to bring Project xCloud to India. Microsoft has promised to shed more light on the service soon. A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed this news.
Project xCloud is Microsoft’s video game streaming service, allowing players to instantly stream console and PC games to their device of choice using an internet connection. Microsoft is bringing it to India with the help of Jio. Even though not many intel is available at the moment.
