From past few months, we are seeing a lot of leaks and rumours about the upcoming Moto Z3 Play smartphone. Now today Motorola finally launched this smartphone. This smartphone has few First timers for Moto Z series, so let’s have a look at them and at other specs as well…
Design wise this Moto Z3 Play has few but very important changes. 1st important change is the new aspect ratio. It has the latest 18:9 trending aspect ratio, but then also the previous generation mods are compatible. Well, that’s because Motorola promised during the 1st Moto Z launch that they are not going to change the design parameters for a good amount of time, so that the older mods will be compatible for a longer time. This is the only device with 18:9 display but without changing the overall body ratio. This is the first Moto Play series skimping the 3.5mm headphone jack.
After moving to 18:9 ratio, most of the OEMs either placed the fingerprint sensor at the back, squeezed it on the front, or few also skipped the same. But Motorola went a different way with Moto Z3 Play as the fingerprint sensor on Z3 Play is placed at the right hand side. Unlike Sony smartphones where the side mounted fingerprint doubles up as power button, this Moto Z3 Play has a separate power button on to the left. That’s pretty strange!!! The back now has Dual Camera Setup in the same camera ring. Also, the back panel is now made up of glass, and that’s the trend for this segment now. Other things are identical to Moto Z2 Play.
Motorola also improved the internals with Moto Z3 Play. It sports a 6.01 inch FullHD+ (2160×1080) Super AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 octa core processor clocked at 1.8Ghz each along with Adreno 509 GPU. It has 4GB of RAM with 32GB & 64GB of storage options, along with MicroSd Card support. There is a 12MP main camera at the back with f/1.7 lens, 1.4 micron pixels, Phase Detection Dual Pixel Autofocus, 4k video recording option, along with 5MP secondary camera for depth effects. On the front there is an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 lens.
This device runs on latest as well as almost pure Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, with all Motorola amenities like Moto Voice. There is a 3000mAh battery with 15W fast charging support. For connectivity, it has 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, FM Radio, aptX audio support, and USB Type-C port. It weights at 156 grams and is 6.25mm thin (slim design is one of the key points of Moto Z lineup). According to Motorola, this will be splash and dust resistance, but not IP certified. It will be available only in Deep Indigo colour as of now.
Pricing & Availability:
- On sale in Brazil starting today itself, USA and other regions will get it soon.
- 3GB variant is priced at R$ 2,299 (USD 597.66, INR 39,980)
- Will be priced in USA at USD 499 for unlocked variant.
- Battery Mod will be bundled for free.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. Don’t get into the Brazilian pricing because in Brazil the electronics are usually very expensive. So if we look at the pricing of USA, still the Moto Z3 Play is very expensive for what it’s offering. Seems like this year Motorola is also going in the overpricing direction. Now let’s see what will be the result for the same. What are your thoughts on this device? Do let us know in the comment section below. Also stay tuned with us for more information.
