The music streaming service renews its global licensing partnership with Warner Music Group. This means Spotify users in India can now listen to tunes from Wiz Khalifa, Madonna, Cardi B, Linkin Park, Coldplay, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, David Guetta, Paramore, Bruno Mars and so on.
Along with this crucial deal, Spotify inks a new partnership with Saregama bringing more Bollywood songs, Devotional, Classical and Ghazals songs owned by Saregama group.
The new agreement of Spotify India with Warner Music Group follows the licensing agreement Spotify signed with WMG’s publishing division Warner Chappell in January, bringing an end to the disputes. The new deal with WMG covers any artist who has recorded music while being signed to one of its many record labels, from Atlantic Records (Ed Sheeran) to Parlophone (Coldplay). If the artist you’ve been looking for on Spotify is signed with WMG, the songs should be available on the platform.
Prior to the launch of the popular music streaming provider in the country, Indians have been using VPN to access the service and its vast Library. Spotify, known for its user interface, compatibility with other apps, enjoys a 271 million subscriber base across the world. When Spotify came to India, users were not able to listen to many tracks thanks to the mishap. This issue being solved paves the way for Spotify to conquer the Indian market and lock horns with native players like JioSaavn, Gaana, Airtel Wink. Moreover, the launch of Youtube Music, Apple Music, added to the competition. With the new songs, Spotify has the edge over the competition and is sure to turn heads.
