Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X devices don’t support aptX Bluetooth streaming

Google added support for Bluetooth audio codecs such Qualcomm’s aptX and aptX HD to enable high-quality Bluetooth audio streaming on supported devices. In Android O preview. Now reports claim that the aptX will not be supported by Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.

In Android O Developer Preview, you can find Bluetooth audio codecs under developer options. However, aptX is a proprietary codec by Qualcomm which allows supported devices to stream without losses. The pixel phones support the codec, but it is missing in Nexus devices.

The issue came to light when a Nexus 6P user filed a bug report that he was unable to get the audio codec working on his device, to which a Google developer replied that Nexus 6P and nexus 5X do not support aptX and aptX HD and google had no plan to add support.

Google developer has confirmed the feature won’t hit Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, it may just bring it as a part of a firmware update. However, Google had brought the feature to Nexus smartphones running on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. Google could always add it, wait till other news reach us officially.
