When Carl Pie left OnePlus and announced Nothing brand, everyone immediately assumed it to be a smartphone brand. But then the Nothing Ear (1) launched and for a while we thought “Is this not a smartphone brand?” But few months later they announced to launch a smartphone as well. And from past few months it became one of the most hyped smartphone of 2022.
And today, after a lot of hype, Nothing Phone (1) is official. Though we already know a lot about this smartphone through the leaks, but getting to know them officially feels more genuine. So without further ado, let’s get into it.
Display:
This Nothing Phone (1) has a 6.55 Inch 10-Bit Full HD+ Display with 120Hz refresh rate. It has HDR10+ support and 500 nits of brightness (1200 nits peak). For protection it has Gorilla Glass 5 on front (no information about the back glass).
Performance & Storage:
As the rumours suggested, this Nothing Phone (1) comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G+ processor with Adreno 642L GPU. This is a successor to last year’s most stable 778G processor with minor change, even the GPU is exact same. In terms of storage, there’s 8GB RAM variant with 128GB or 256GB storage options, or the 12GB RAM variant with 256GB storage. The storage is UFS 3.1 and RAM is LPDDR5. So this package should give you a smooth experience.
Camera:
Nothing went with a simpler but effective camera solution. Instead of putting 4 cameras with 2 total gimmicks, the Nothing Phone (1) only has two cameras which are important and practical. The main camera is 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor with f1.8 lens and OIS. It can record videos up to 4K at 30fps. Then the secondary ultrawide is also a 50MP Samsung JN1 sensor with 114° field of view.
It’s good that they didn’t went with that basic 8MP sensor which most brands are giving even today. In the front there’s 16MP sensor inside a punch hole on top left corner. Both ultrawide and front camera can shoot videos up to 1080p ay 30fps only.
Software & Connectivity:
This device runs on Android 12 out of the box with Nothing OS (1). This is their own UI which is very close to stock Android but has very few of it’s own features. For connectivity, it has 5G, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth 5.2, and Type-C port.
This Nothing Phone (1) has stereo speakers, no headphone jack, in-display fingerprint sensor, and 4,500mAh battery with 33W fast wireless charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging for accessories like earbuds.
Transparent Back & Glyph Interface:
Now let’s talk about the USP of Nothing Phone (1), it’s transparent back design and Glyph Interface. So this devices has a transparent back design, just like their earbuds. And of course not every part is visible, only some are. There are multiple LEDs on the back which they like to call “Glyph Interface”. These lights lit up according to multiple actions like charging, call, and notification.
For a glance, when you receive a call and you have set one of those few Nothing ringtones, then the lights will blink according to the beat of ringtone. And when you charge the device the lights will start glowing like a battery charging indicator. It seems like a cool feature, but I don’t know how much customisations Nothing will add here and how useful it will be actually?
