If we talk about Virtual Reality (VR) headsets for smartphones, Oculus is a brand which is very popular in this segment. And as everyone knows that Facebook has bought this company, so it’s the employees of Facebook now. And Hugo Barra, ex-Global VP of Xiaomi, is current VP of VR department on Facebook. So technically Oculus is under Hugo. Now at CES 2018 event, Oculus announced a new partnership.
Oculus has decided to make a partnership with Xiaomi for their VR headsets. Xiaomi is going to be hardware partner at Global level. The aim of this partnership is providing quality VR headsets at the reasonable price across the globe. Both will bring Oculus Go VR headset for various markets, and Mi VR Standalone headset specifically for China. Both VR headsets will have same design language and will carry same internals as well.

Talking about internals both these VR headsets will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor for immersive VR experience. The SDK used in both devices is also same so that current Oculus developers won’t face any problems with developing content for Mi VR Standalone headset.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. With this partnership of Oculus and Xiaomi, Hugo Barra is again connecting himself with his previous job place. But more importantly, the consumers will get a new and immersive VR experience at a reasonable price, as Oculus never compromise in quality experience and Xiaomi never compromise in aggressive pricing.
