From past few months, a lot of OnePlus 3/3T users are waiting for Android Pie update, which OnePlus said to provide back in July. In January both devices got spotted on Geekbench running Android Pie, but we haven’t seen the update in real. Seems like OnePlus 3/3T users have to wait more for the Pie update a bit more, as the OxygenOS developers have some announcement for them.
This week someone posted an alleged screenshot of ‘About Section’ of OnePlus 3T running Android Pie based on HydrogenOS 9.0.0 at OnePlus Community. As the update already got delayed everyone was thinking that the update would fall anytime soon. But OnePlus has different plan for the update. David Y. from Team OxygenOS responded to this thread that they will first release a security patch update based on Android Oreo, and after that they will release the Pie update. David said this in a sarcastic way, below is his statement:
The next update will be a security patch update based on Android O, then Android Pie.
Can’t you guys just go and do something more meaningful than chasing the update…(facepalm)

After this statement a lot of users are disappointed, as they still have to wait more for the update. Also they were angry because of the rudeness this statement carries. Later David apologized for his was and said that it was in ‘joking tune’.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. OnePlus haven’t given any ETA for this security update as well as Pie update. But my guessing is that the Oreo based security update will fall early next week, and Pie update by the end of March or early April i.e. next month. Personally being a OnePlus 3 user, I think that OnePlus should take their time to give as stable update as they can. Because it’s very irritating thing to ask for bug fix updates.
