After all the heavy leaks and rumours as well as the long wait, OnePlus has finally announced its new flagship smartphones OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. Both the smartphones are coming with the new design as well as heavy specifications. The company has also added some features which were missing from the past couple of years. OnePlus 8 Pro
The superstar of the brand’s event, the latest OnePlus 8 Pro features a 6.78-inch Quad HD+ Fluid AMOLED display with 3168 x 1440 pixels resolution as well as the curved glass and that is available on the front and back. It also sports a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate along with 1 billion colours and 513 PPI density. The smartphone also supports the MEMC and offers HDR10/10+ content. The display of the smartphone is also a certified A+ from DisplayMate. Speaking about the protection, the company has layered the Gorilla Glass to protect the display from scratches and any other incidents.
Under the hood, the flagship smartphone is powered by the latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor along with the 8/12 GB LPDDR5 RAM and the Adreno 650 GPU for the graphical task. In terms of storage, the device comes with 128/256 GB of internal storage with UFS 3.0 and just like it’s predecessors, the device will not allow you to expand the storage.
Moving to the photography department, the new OnePlus 8 Pro comes with quad rear camera setup and that is happening for the first time in the portfolio of the brand. The smartphone rocks 48-megapixel primary Sony IMX689 sensor with an f/1.78 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS) as well as electronic image stabilization (EIS), followed by an 8-megapixel secondary sensor with an f/2.44 telephoto lens and OIS support, along with a 48-megapixel tertiary sensor with an f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens, and there’s also a 5-megapixel “Colour Filter” camera sensor and it is assigned to bring artistic lighting effects and filters, and the sensor comes with an f/2.4 aperture. The smartphone packs the larger 4,510 mAh battery with 30W Warp Charge 30T, and the same also comes with Warp Charge 30 Wireless charging, the smartphone also supports 3W reverse charging. Coming to the vanilla variant, the smartphone sports a 6.55-inch full-HD+ Fluid AMOLED display with 2400 x 1080 pixels resolution and offers a 90Hz refresh rate, along with a 20:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone also comes with a 3D Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The smartphone rocks a triple rear camera setup and that is in the combination of a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 primary sensor with an f/1.75 aperture, followed by a 2-megapixel secondary sensor with an f/2.4 macro lens, and a 16-megapixel tertiary sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and the cameras supports 4K video recording at 30/ 60fps. For the selfies, the smartphone features a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 sensor with an f/2.45 aperture.
It also ships on a 4,300 mAh battery and that supports Warp Charge 30T. It would be great if the company implement the wireless charging on the vanilla variant as well. Having said that, other specifications are similar to the Pro variant. Speaking about the colour choices, the smartphone will available in Onyx Black, Glacial Green, Interstellar Glow, and Polar Silver.
Pricing and availability
The OnePlus 8 Pro will available for $899 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant while 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant has the price tag of $999. It will be available for purchase starting April 21 in the UK and from April 29 in the US. Unfortunately, the company didn’t reveal the pricing and availability information of the smartphones in the Indian market but the same will be revealed later this month.
On the other hand, the OnePlus 8 is priced at $699 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant, while its 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant will available at $799. It will go on sale starting April 21 in the UK and April 29 in the US.
