Oppo is busy working on futuristic concepts of smartphones and now we have more insights on the Oppo X 2021 concept phone which were initially teased at Inno Day 2020. During the MWCS 2021, the company released a video explaining how the device expands itself from 6.7″ to 7.4″.
The motion is supported by two roll motors which use cogs that mesh into a Warp Track laminate. As the laminate is made up of high-strength steel it is both tough and thin as it is just 0.1mm at its thinnest point but it is also strong enough to support the display.
Underneath the display, there is a 2-in-1 plate to protect and support the display in both its retracted and extended form. This plate is made of metal strip meshed together so that these slide in-and-out of each other when the width of the phone is adjusted. The design team chose a 6.8mm axis and this will allow the flexible OLED panel to move about the axis without showing crease while keeping the thickness in check.
