One of the world’s leading chipset manufacturer Qualcomm has unveiled their new flagship SoC for smartphones named Snapdragon 888 Plus at MWC 2021. It poses as an upgrade to the Snapdragon 888 SoC It packs an updated CPU paired with an updated AI engine from the house of Qualcomm. Features and Specifications of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus
Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus will support displays with a combination of up to 4K resolution at 60Hz or QHD+ resolution at 144Hz refresh rate. Just like its predecessor, it supports HDR10 and HDR10+ display standards.
It comes with Qualcomm Kryo 680 CPU Prime core that has a maximum clock speed of up to 3 GHz and is paired with a 6th-generation Qualcomm AI Engine that can achieve up to 32 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) AI performance, which according to the company is 20% higher than its predecessor. The AI processor inside is called Qualcomm Hexagon 780 AI processor and represents the 6th generation. It is capable of attaining 32 TOPS which is 6 extra than Snapdragon 888 SoC.
The graphical tasks are handled by Adreno 660 GPU whereas the connectivity is handled by Snapdragon X60 5G modem which can touch a download speed of 7.5 Gbps. It also features Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 that brings the latest Wi-Fi standards on board. The connectivity feature list includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.2, and NFC, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, NavIC, and SBAS.
Speaking of photographic capabilities, it rocks a Spectra 580 ISP which unlocks triple concurrent capture with parallel processing at up to 2.7 gigapixels per second. In addition, it is capable of capturing three 28MP photos or three 4K HDR videos at once. Other than this, the ISP can also take burst photos with 12MP resolution at 120 fps. Other features included are AI-based auto-focus and auto-exposure, improved low-light architecture that is expected to capture brighter photos in near-dark situations. Finally, it also comes with the ability to process 10-bit colour depth in the HIEF format for obtaining vivid colours.
To excite the gamers, the company has included a full suite of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features which consist of Variable Rate Shading for faster graphics performance and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch for increased display responsiveness. It also packs Quick Charge 5 which can fully charge a smartphone battery in under 15 minutes, according to Qualcomm.
Qualcomm has told that flagship smartphones coming in the third quarter of 2021 will be powered by the new Snapdragon 888 Plus.
