Lenovo owned Motorola mobiles is reportedly looking to expand their portfolio into rugged phones soon. However, these type of rugged smartphones will not be manufactured by Lenovo but the manufacturing will be outsourced to Bullitt Group. It is a clever move since the former lack experience in making such tough phones but the latter is known for their efforts in that department.
The Bullitt Group company is based in the UK and are known for making the CAT lineup of rugged smartphones. The CAT phones are manufactured by them under license of Caterpillar Inc. which is an American based engineering enterprise. As for the experience of Bullitt Group in making these rugged phones, they have churned out rugged phones under the Land Rover branding and are also responsible for making the Kodak Ectra Camera Phone which made a buzz in 2016.
Now the company has decided to add Motorola to its portfolio and has expressed that they are looking to build a “long-term global strategic brand partnership to develop and market rugged mobile phones bearing the iconic Motorola brand”. The company believes they would be ready to announce the rugged lineup of Motorola phones sometime next month.
It is clear that the upcoming smartphone from Motorola will run Android OS and might even support 5G connectivity standard. The rugged smartphones eye their demographic in the construction industry and health workers such as first responders. These smartphones are built to survive drops, extreme conditions and are expected to last long on a single charge.
