Samsung Galaxy S20 Series Unveiled At UNPACKED 2020

After a lot of wait and leaks, Samsung finally unveiled the Galaxy S20 trio at UNPACKED event. This year Samsung will ditch the ‘E’ version, instead the regular Galaxy S20 will be the base model. Then there’s Galaxy S20+ and a new Galaxy S20 Ultra. This Galaxy S20 Ultra is supposed to set new benchmarks in terms of camera hardware. But other two models are also very premium for their respective prices. Now without further ado, let’s have a look at all three smartphones..

Samsung Galaxy S20:

Starting off with the base model, the Galaxy S20 has the smallest 6.2 inch Dynamic AMOLED display with Quad HD+ (2K) resolution and 563 pixel density (ppi). It’s a 120hz panel with incredible 240hz touch response, which is first time for Samsung. The display supports HDR10+, Always on display, and is protected by Gorilla Glass 6. It comes with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 (2.73Ghz clock speed, 7nm+ process) chipset for USA, and Exynos 990 (2.84Ghz clock speed, 7nm+ process) chipset for rest of the regions. It has Adreno 650 and Mali-G77 MP11 GPU respectively. It has 8/12GB RAM options and only 128GB storage option, along with MicroSD card support. Do note that 12GB RAM is only available for 5G variant.

Coming to the camera, this Samsung Galaxy S20 has a triple camera setup at the back. The main camera is 12MP with f1.8 aperture, 1.8μm pixels, OIS, and dual pixel PDAF. The secondary camera is a whopping 64MP Telephoto lens with 3X hybrid optical zoom and 30x digital zoom. They will crop the 64MP image to 12MP. Thus, hybrid optical zoom. This one has 1.4μm pixels, f2.0 aperture, and OIS. This camera can also shoot 8K videos, which is the first time for any commercial smartphone. A single frame of 8K footage is of 33MP, more than it’s primary camera. Lastly, there’s a 12MP ultra wide-angle lens with 120° FOV and f2.2 aperture. On the front, there’s 10MP sensor with f2.2 aperture, dual pixel PDAF, and video recording up to 4k at 60fps.

This Galaxy S20 runs on Android 10 out of the box with One UI 2.0 on top. It packs in 4,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging (charger included in box) and 15W fast wireless charging. Samsung features like Bixby and Samsung Pay will be here. The fingerprint sensor is embedded into the display. For protection, it has IP68 certification for dust and water resistance. For audio, it has stereo speakers but lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. For connectivity, it has 5G (select regions), dual band Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, aptX HD, Bluetooth 5.0, and Type-C port. It’s 7.9mm thin and weighs at just 169 grams. It comes with Cosmic Grey, Cosmic Pink, and Cosmic Blue colour options.

Samsung Galaxy S20+:

Now coming to more premium model, the Galaxy S20+ has 6.7 inch Dynamic AMOLED display with Quad HD+ (2K) resolution and 525 pixel density (ppi). It’s also a 120hz panel with incredible 240hz touch response. The display supports HDR10+, Always on display, and is protected by Gorilla Glass 6. It comes with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 (2.73Ghz clock speed, 7nm+ process) chipset for USA, and Exynos 990 (2.84Ghz clock speed, 7nm+ process) chipset for rest of the regions. It has Adreno 650 and Mali-G77 MP11 GPU respectively.

It has 8/12GB RAM options and 128/256/512GB storage options, along with MicroSD card support. Do note that 12GB RAM and 256/512GB options are only available for 5G variant. Talking about the camera, this Samsung Galaxy S20+ has quad camera setup at the back. The first three sensors are same as regular S20, but there’s a fourth 0.3MP 3D depth sensor for portrait shots. The front camera is also the same 10MP sensor.

It’s 7.8mm thin and weighs at just 186 grams. It comes with Cosmic Grey, Cosmic Black, and Cosmic Blue colour options.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra:

Now comes the most premium model amongst all, the Galaxy S20 Ultra, it has the largest 6.9 inch of Dynamic AMOLED display with Quad HD+ (2K) resolution and 511 ppi. It’s also a 120hz panel with incredible 240hz touch response. The display supports HDR10+, Always on display, and is protected by Gorilla Glass 6. It comes with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 (2.73Ghz clock speed, 7nm+ process) chipset for USA, and Exynos 990 (2.84Ghz clock speed, 7nm+ process) chipset for rest of the regions. It has Adreno 650 and Mali-G77 MP11 GPU respectively. There’s 12GB RAM forith 128/256GB storage options and huge 16GB RAM for 512GB storage, along with MicroSD card support.

Now let’s talk about the camera, which is the key point of this Galaxy S20 Ultra. The primary camera is a whopping 108MP sensor with f1.8 aperture, 9-in-1 pixel binning, making 12MP shot with 2.4μm pixels. OIS is also present here. It can record 8K videos as well. The secondary camera is 48MP Periscope lens, with 10X hybrid optical zoom and interesting 100X digital zoom. It has f3.1 aperture, 0.8μm pixels, and OIS. Then the third one is 12MP ultra wide-angle lens with 120° FOV, f2.2 aperture, and 1.4μm pixels. Lastly it has 0.3MP 3D depth sensor. On the front, it has 40MP camera with f2.2 aperture and PDAF. This is the highest resolution for any front camera (not including those who use main camera as front also).

It’s 8.8mm thick and weighs at just 222 grams. It comes with Cosmic Grey and Cosmic Black colour options.

  • Galaxy S20 5G is priced at $999 (₹71,250 approx.)
  • Galaxy S20+ 5G starts at $1,199 (₹85,510 approx.)
  • Galaxy S20 Ultra starts at $1,399 (₹99,780 approx.)
  • Pre-orders will start from 21st February.
  • Shipping starts from 6th March globally.
  • Pre-ordered units of Galaxy S20+ 5G and S20 Ultra will get free Galaxy Buds+.
  • No information about the 4G variants as of now.
