After briefly showcasing the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G during the Unpacked event in August, Samsung has finally launched the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G for global markets. It comes with a foldable design that goes inwards like its predecessor. But this time the company has made major improvements in design as well as features when compared to the original Galaxy Fold. With the launch of the third foldable within a year, Samsung seems to be very confident in the fold lineup. Let us jump right in and see, what the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G offers.
Specifications of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G
Starting with the display, it has a larger 6.2-inch punch-hole display that occupies the front when folded. This display has a resolution of 2260 x 8160 pixels resulting in 386 PPI and is tuned to refresh at 60 Hz. But unfolded is when the magic starts as it grows into a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Panel with a resolution of 2,213 x 1,689 pixels resulting in 37 PPI along with a 120 Hz refresh rate. This makes the new display 13.5% larger than its predecessor. Now the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G houses the selfie camera inside a punch hole rather than an odd-looking notch and the display is now covered with an ultra-thin layer of glass for added durability. The cover display is also protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and the back is protected by Gorilla Glass 6.
Under the hood, the device is powered by the latest Snapdragon 865+ from Qualcomm across all regions. The smartphone is paired with 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM along with 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There is another variant featuring 512 GB of storage as well. It comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for added security.
Talking about the cameras, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G features a triple rear camera setup. It starts with a 12-megapixel primary sensor that has large 1.8µm pixels with an aperture of f/1.8. It features Dual Pixel AF and OIS. It is followed by a 12-megapixel sensor that supports 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom. Lastly, there is a 12-megapixel ultrawide angle camera with f/2.2 aperture. The punch hole in the display holds the 10-megapixel selfie camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and a FOV of 80 degrees.
On the software side of things, it comes with One UI running on top of Android 10. Other features include Samsung’s in-house developed Wireless Dex and high dynamic dual speakers. It is powered by a 4,500 mAh battery and comes with a 25W fast charging. It supports wireless charging and wireless power-sharing as well.
