OpenAI proudly introduced its video generation tool dubbed Sora but now the company is reportedly shutting down the video-generation tool, and the company has taken the new decision in less than two years after it first drew widespread attention.
The company introduced Sora in 2024 and it was said to create realistic video clips from simple text prompts. The early demos impressed but the momentum was lost in the long term traction. OpenAI has now announced that the company is currently planning to step back from video generation and focus more on areas like robotics and so-called “agentic” AI.
It is worth mentioning that Sora will not disappear immediately as the company is discontinuing the app and winding down development, the web version will be available for now. In short, the company is killing the tool but did not announce the exact date of the shutdown.
