OpenAI was expected to introduce a smartphone but the company has entered into the world of hardware by launching a smart keyboard dubbed the OpenAI Codex Micro, and it is a compact keypad built for developers using its Codex AI coding platform. The keyboard has been created in collaboration with keyboard maker Work Louder.

The newly announced accessory is a programmable macro keypad, and the same is designed to make interacting with Codex agents a quicker and more convenient way. The device also comes with 13 mechanical keys, including six illuminated Agent Keys that display the status of active AI agents using different colors. The device will enable you to assign Command Keys for actions including accepting or rejecting code suggestions, starting new chats, voice input, or switching between tasks.
It also comes with a rotary dial to adjust Codex’s reasoning effort, and the device also features a joystick that can be mapped to frequently used workflows like debugging or code refactoring. The keyboard also comes with 32 interchangeable keycaps that offer you the flexibility to customize shortcuts based on the workflow.
The device also supports both Bluetooth and USB-C connectivity and the device is compatible with Windows and macOS systems.
Regarding the pricing and availability, the smart keyboard is currently priced at $230 and the device is being sold in limited quantities through OpenAI and Work Louder.
