Spotify Premium subscribers will get play buttons and shuffle buttons in the coming weeks. The Play and Shuffle buttons are currently unified for Spotify Premium and Spotify free users.
“This new change will allow you to choose the mode you prefer at the top of playlists and albums and listen the way you want,” Spotify wrote on its blog. “If you like the unexpected joy of using shuffle mode, or prefer to press play and listen to tunes in order, Spotify has you covered.
Spotify listeners may recall that the platform only offered a “shuffle play” option for albums, much to the dismay of many artists. This changed last year when multiple Grammy Award-winner Adele tweeted at Spotify, “We don’t create albums with too much care and think about our track listings for no reason.” The platform now displays the standard play button by default on album pages instead of the play/shuffle combo
Separating the Play and Shuffle buttons is a welcome change from the status quo, however it seems completely ridiculous that Sportify would choose to lock out such a basic function behind a pay wall and not make it available to its free users.”
