WhatsApp and Telegram are the two very popular instant messaging applications and Telegram offers some additional features and an extra layer of protection compared to WhatsApp. However, the head of WhatsApp Will Cathcart criticize the end to end encryption feature of Telegram.
The head of WhatsApp has quoted an article by Wired and his own criticism of Telegram’s end-to-end encryption (E2EE) implementation. It is also said that there are some other problems like it is not enabled by default and E2EE is not available for group chats. Via
Telegram has responded to this allegation as the Telegram spokesperson Remi Vaughn says that the article of Wired is having many errors and the editorial team ignored comments and responses from Telegram.
It is said that there are 9 errors in the article it is also addressing various claims in the Wired article, including the one about location tracking and the same will be possible only if the user explicitly makes their location publicly visible.
Telegram has also said that a team from Italy’s University of Udine has verified the MTProto 2.0 protocol which Telegram is using for the security of chats.
It is pointed out that there could be one problem that will break the security of secret access and when starting a secret chat you must need to check the fingerprint of the authentication keys through a safe external channel.
