According to Sensor Tower, one of the best known mobile application analysis companies in the field has released new data showing TikTok and its Chinese version, Douyin has generated combined revenue of $78 million in the first quarter of this year.
According to the research firm, the revenue is generated is calculated from the apps installed from the Apple Store and Google Play Store alone. This figure earns them the title of top-grossing app in the month of April. The data also reveals that over 86% of the revenue comes from the Chinese market and 8.2% of the earning comes from the American market. Both TikTok and Douyin generated a staggering 315 million downloads worldwide within the first three months of the year.
It is followed by Youtube which earned $76 million in the same period. Youtube has seen a 56% Year-On-Year growth in revenue. The revenue generated comes at a share of over 50% from America and a 11% of revenue comes from Japan. It is closely followed by Tinder and Netflix. Both these apps are available to their users based on a subscription model.
The statistics from Sensor Tower does not include the revenue generated from advertisements and affiliate marketing. The above-mentioned data is based on in-app purchase revenue only. TikTok and Douyin is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese Enterprise. This news is surprising considering how TikTok popularity and ratings in the Play Store have taken a hit following the recent tiff between creators in both platforms. Have you used TikTok?
