First of all Team TechnoBugg Welcomes everyone at the First article of 2018. As you all know that last year was totally trending for 18:9 displays in flagships and Dual Camera Setup in both flagships and midrange. Almost all flagship phone carries that 18:9 aspect ratio display with very thin bezels. Also, both flagships, as well as midrange phones, carried the trend of Dual Camera Setup on the Rear. Some OEMs do buy it in front as well and Google is giving those features with their software abilities. Talking about midrange smartphones, we have seen some good changes in Camera. And yes many mid-range phones are powerful of course.
So what about this year? What will be the new features that will trend in 2018? In this article let’s talk about the same. So without wasting any more time, let’s have a look at our predictions on the trends of 2018 in smartphones:
Trends & Improvements In 2018: Our Predictions
1. 18:9 Design into Mid-range Smartphones:
Last year we have seen many flagships with this 18:9 screen ratio. In mid-range also we have seen few phones like Honor 7X and Honor 9i which has the new screen type. Now this year this trend will shift to most of the popular mid-range smartphones. Almost all popular mid-range smartphones and few budget smartphones will adopt this new screen ratio. And that’s fairly good because consumers don’t need to pay a big amount for this screen ratio. Though I want to clear one thing that this 18:9 screen ratio doesn’t relate to bezel-less displays. In fact, many smartphones having this screen ratio has food amount of bezels, like Pixel 2 XL. So don’t expect 2018 mid-range phones to have bezel-less displays like Mi Mix 2 or Galaxy Note 8.
2. Depth Sensor Front Camera:
Last year Apple launched iPhone X which comes with special Depth Sensor that allows getting more secured face unlock and creative tools like Animojis. This became very popular amongst all iPhone users. Now many OEMs have indicated that they will bring similar, or even better Depth Sensor front camera with their next flagships. Regarding face unlock, some OEMs like OnePlus has already implemented face unlock in its OnePlus 5T smartphone. But as OnePlus used their software capabilities it’s not as secure as iPhone X, but it’s equally fast. So this face unlocking and Depth Sensor front camera will become a trend in flagships of 2018.
3. Augmented & Virtual Reality:
Apart from hardware, this year will be very important in terms of software as well. In 2018 we will see more improvements in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Google will also implement it’s ARCore to many smartphones as well, as ARCore don’t require any additional hardware to perform. Apple will also bring its ARKit technology in this field. So we will see improvements in AR and VR technology, especially in AR technology.
4. Artificial Intelligence:
In 2017 few more OEMs bought their own Virtual Assistant like Bixby and Alexa, which works on AI technology. Also the popular Google Assistant has become more smarter than before. But it’s still a trailer, as Artificial Intelligence has much more potential than what we think as of now. In future the AI technology will completely change our lifestyle. But talking about 2018, we will see improvements in AI as Google is continuously focusing on AI technology now. Huawei will also bring it’s own AI Assistant, in 2017 they launched Kirin 970 processor which has separate units for AI works. So we will see improvements and more adaptation of Artificial Intelligence in 2018.
5. Software Capabilities:
Last year with Pixel 2 XL‘s impressive Camera performance, Google has proved that if software optimisation is done well than it can easily beat other’s who has better hardware. As the camera of Pixel 2 XL is all about software, the hardware is good but not brilliant. Now inspiring by Google, this year other OEMs will also focus more on their software optimisations rather than just upgrading the hardware of their smartphones. So get ready for some really awesome software performance in 2018.
So these are our predictions on the new changes, improvements and trends which 2018 will bring with it. Apart from these changes, we expect from OEMs to provide software & security updates to all of their smartphones as early as possible. So what are your thoughts on my predictions?
