A recent report by Quartz describes that Google is collecting data from your smartphones even when your Location services are disabled!
A report suggests that Google has been collecting data of nearby cell towers and sending them back to them used to manage Notifications and Messages. But it is also stated that the data was never stored on their servers.
“Using Cell ID codes could help further improve the speed and performance of message delivery on Android phones. However, we never incorporated Cell ID into our network sync system, so that data was immediately discarded, and we updated it to no longer request Cell ID,” said a google Spokesman.
“When you use Google services, we may collect and process information about your actual location. We use various technologies to determine location, including IP address, GPS, and other sensors that may, for example, provide Google with information on nearby devices, Wi-Fi access points, and cell towers.”
It is assumed that Google has started this in early 2017 and it is no matter of what device being used and even if the location service is disabled and smartphones without sim are vulnerable to this.It is still a confusing topic that how cell tower data will improve message delivery in Android smartphones!
