Vivo NEX S And NEX A Unveiled With Future Ready Technologies

Vivo NEX

At MWC 2018, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo showcased their concept smartphone, Vivo APEX. This smartphone is one of the most less bezel smartphone, comparable to Mi Mix series. Now we are getting a lot of leaks and rumours of the commercial launch of this device, named as Vivo NEX.

Now today, the leaks are going to stop because Vivo has officially unveiled Vivo NEX A and NEX S. Let’s see what both these smartphones packs inside.

  • Vivo NEX S:

This is the upper-end model as compared to another one. This smartphone is what we all are expecting. Starting off with the design, this smartphone has bezel-less 6.59 inch display with excellent 91.24 % screen to body ratio. The bezels are extremely slim, and also without that so called Notch “feature”. For receiving calls Vivo also implemented vibrating screen technology i.e. under display earpiece, similar to Mi Mix & Mi Mix 2.

Talking about under display, it also has the latest in-display fingerprint sensor that’s similar to Vivo’s own X21 UD. The front camera is switched to top of the phone, it will slide out from the top (see the image below). The company is calling it Elevator Camera, as it slides like an elevator. The back is made up of glass back.

Moving to the specifications, it sports a 6.59 inch Super AMOLED display with 19.3:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ (2316×1080) resolution. It has Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 octa core processor clocked at 2.7Ghz along with Adreno 630 GPU. It has 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB storage options. The primary rear camera is a 12MP sensor with f/1.8 lens, 1.4µm, 4 axis OIS, PDAF, and the secondary rear camera is a 5MP sensor with f/2.4 lens. On the front there’s an 8MP camera with f/2.0 lens and as mentioned the Elevator Camera. Also as this is 2018 smartphone, it’s mandatory to mention that this camera is also AI-powered. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with FunTouch OS 4 on top. There’s also Jovi Voice Assistant, the AI-powered assistant by Vivo along with a dedicated button.

It packs in a 4000mAh battery with 22W fast charging support. Regarding connectivity, it has 4G LTE, dual band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm headphone jack with 32bit audio support. It comes in two colour options; Black and Red. The Black colour variant has RGB colour reflections which company call as Holographic Diffraction Dynamic Color Illusion Technology (Phew !! How small name it is). It weights at 199 grams and is 8mm thick. Weight is not so bad as compared to other smartphones with this big size and battery capacity, and the device is also not so thick despite the fact that many things are under display now.

  • Vivo NEX A:

This one is the lower end, but very decent smartphone amongst the two. This has few cut-downs in the features as compared to NEX S, but few USPs remains the same. First, this one has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 octa core processor instead of Snapdragon 845, and this one is clocked at 2.2Ghz along with Adreno 616 GPU. It resists at 6GB RAM with 128GB of internal storage. The fingerprint sensor is moved to it’s traditional place i.e. at the back.

These are all the difference between both the devices. This NEX A also has same screen to body ratio, same Elevator front camera, and all other features are same too. You can read all those features above.

Pricing and Availability:

  • Vivo NEX S 128GB variant is priced at CNY 4,498 (USD 702, INR 47,382), and 256GB variant at CNY 4,998 (USD 780, INR 52,649).
  • Vivo NEX A is priced at CNY 3898 (USD 608, INR 41,061)
  • Both these devices will be available in China and pre-orders will start from tomorrow.
  • No information about availability in other countries.

So that’s all the information we have as of now. Except the fact that both the devices will run on FunTouch OS, I didn’t find any major con in the specs. The camera specs do seem similar to X21 UD, but let’s see if AI will make difference here. What are your thoughts on these devices? Let us know in the comments below.
