Vivo S5 Unveiled With Quad Camera Setup

As teased earlier Vivo has launched its new smartphone today, named Vivo S5. This is a mid-range smartphone by Vivo which is meant to compete with Redmi Note 8 Pro and Realme XT. We got a bunch of leaks before so we already have an idea about this device. But still, let’s have a look at complete as well as official specs of Vivo S5.

Design & Display:

Starting off with the front, this Vivo S5 had a 6.44 inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2400×1080) resolution and 409 pixel density (ppi). This display covers 91.38% of the total front. It’s a relatively taller 20:9 display which is not so common as of now, but will soon replace 19.5:9 ratio. Punch hole camera is given at the top right of this display, and fingerprint sensor is present beneath it.

Moving to the back, we can see a Quad Camera setup placed in a diamond style bump. There is a glass back with some lighting effects on it. There’s Vivo branding below. The back of this Vivo S5 looks quite minimal and a bit different, but at the same time not much impressive for me personally. Regarding durability both front and back glass panel is without any protection, until we get any words from the OEM.

Now let’s talk about the USP of the Vivo S5 i.e. it’s Quad Camera setup. The primary one is 48MP sensor with f1.8 aperture, 0.8μm pixel size, and PDAF. Then there’s 8MP Wide Angle lens f2.2 aperture and 1.12μm pixel size. The third one is 5MP Depth sensor with f2.4 aperture. Lastly the fourth one is 2MP Macro lens with f2.4 aperture and 1.7μm pixel size. Sadly no OIS is present here, as well as Telephoto lens. It can shoot videos up to 4K at 30fps, but without any stabilization.

It had an AI-based feature called a Posture Correction Algorithm, this feature suggests 144 different type of poses so that you can pose better. And of course, other AI features like Super Beauty is also here. On the front there’s 32MP camera with f2.4 aperture and 0.8μm pixel size. This can record up to 1080p videos at 30fps.

Performance & Other Specs:

This device comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 712 octa core chipset having clock speed of 2.3Ghz max and is built on 10nm process. For graphics it has Adreno 616 GPU. It had 8GB RAM and 128/256GB of internal storage, so it’s slightly premium within it’s range in terms of storage. This Vivo S5 runs on Android 9 Pie with FunTouch OS 9 on top. It packs in a 4,000mAh battery with 22.5W VOOC fast charging.

In terms of audio, it has a single speaker and 3.5mm headphone jack as well. Along with the in-display fingerprint, it has software-based face unlock as well. For connectivity, it has 4G, dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and Type-C port. It weighs at 188 grams and is 8.6mm thick. Vivo S5 comes in Star Black, Icelandic Blue, and Phantom Blue colour options.

Pricing & Availability:

  • Vivo S5 (128GB) is priced at ¥2,698 ($350, ₹27,672)
  • Vivo S5 (256GB is priced at ¥2,998 ($392, ₹30,749)
  • Sales in China will start from 22nd November.
  • No information about the availability in other regions.

So that’s all the information we have as of now. Personally I like this device but there are few thing which they could have given, like aptX support, NFC and OIS/EIS. But that’s okay because Vivo is already giving a lot at this price range. Well, what are your thoughts on this Vivo S5? Let us know in the comment section below.
