The instant messaging application WhatsApp is not only used to send text messages but the same also meant to share multimedia messages including photos and videos along with the capability to make voice and video calls. Now the developers of the instant messaging application has added an extra layer of protection on WhatsApp call by offering the capability to protect the IP address.
The newly added feature is said to be available to all the users of WhatsApp in the coming days and the same is available on both Android and iOS platforms. The new implementation will prevent hackers and cybercriminals from accessing the IP addresses of users and misusing them.
WhatsApp is using a direct peer-to-peer VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) connection between two users to make calls and the P2P connection will be offering better call quality and faster data transfer. But it needs the caller and recipient devices to share an IP address to send data packets back and forth for stable connectivity and the WhatsApp calls are end-to-end encrypted. Hackers can able to use packet sniffing technology to intercept a data packet containing sensitive information that includes location, ISP details, and IP addresses.
In this situation, the new WhatsApp feature comes in handy as the same can able to protect IP address in WhatsApp calls which will prevent cybercriminals from using packet sniffing and the same as the power of the company servers. The new implementation will also continue to offer end-to-end encrypted for the privacy of the user.
