Everything about WhatsApp Channels
The new WhatsApp channels feature will enable admin to connect with followers by sending texts, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. This will help brands to keep their followers updated with the latest updates. It is also confirmed that the Profile photos and mobile numbers of the admin and followers will not be visible to anyone. WhatsApp will keep history of the channel on its server for 30 days and the platform will enable admins to block screenshots and forwarding of messages shared in the channel. Moreover, admins can also choose who can follow their channel.
It is worth mentioning that the WhatsApp channels will not be end-to-end encrypted by default. The feature is currently available in Columbia and Singapore. But we believe that the developers of the instant messaging application will expand the availability of the new feature in other parts of the world very soon.
WhatsApp will not enable everyone to create a channel at the moment of time as the feature is available to selected accounts only but this will be changed very soon.
Followers’ can able to search channels simply by searching them on WhatsApp as the platform is offering a searchable directory, but only those set to public. Followers can join a channel using the invite link as well.
The platform is also getting a new tab that will offer Status and Channels. It will be a dedicated tab for users to check status and channel updates from a single place. The new tab will also appear next to Chats, Calls, and Communities.
