Upcoming release of Microsoft Windows 11 will make the task of switching default browsers even more boring. The latest build of the OS would make it even harder to switch browsers while also ignoring browser defaults in different areas.
According to a report from TheVerge, the American tech giant is working on a number of positive changes to the Windows 11 UI to improve the user experience. However, the company is making some changes that will make it more difficult to switch the default browser to any other third party browser. In other words, users of Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi or others may experience inconvenience when switching to other browsers in Windows 11.
Changing the default Edge browser is the way the company has made it difficult through the OS. Similar to Windows 10, installing a new browser and opening a web link for the first time will offer users an easy-switch browser option. However, this is the only easy way to switch browsers. If a user does not enable “Always use this app”, Microsoft Edge will remain the default system browser. In Windows 10, forgetting to enable it may offer you this suggestion whenever you open a link, Windows 11 has now changed it and made it more difficult for users.
Now, instead of a single switch, one has to go to settings to set defaults by file or link type. Take Google Chrome as an example, you now need to change the default file type for HTM, HTML, PDF, SHTML, SVG, WEBP, XHT, XHTML, FTP, HTTP, and HTTPS to Chrome instead of a single switch. This makes the process of becoming unnecessarily complicated and time consuming.
