Xiaomi has launched yet another affordable smartphone called Redmi Y2 in the Indian market and the device is targeting to the selfie lovers, as it comes with 16 megapixel front camera and it is powered by the artificial intelligence (AI). Having said that, the new Redmi Y2 is the rebranded of Redmi S2 that was in last month in China.
Well, with today’s launch of the Redmi Y2, the company has expanded its Y portfolio. The Redmi Y2 sports 5.99 inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass display with 1440 X 720 pixels resolution along with 18:9 aspect ratio. The device is powered by 2.0 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor and paired with the 3/4 GB RAM along with Adreno 506 GPU for the graphical task. In terms of storage, 3 GB RAM variant has 32 GB of internal storage and 4 GB RAM variant has 64 GB of internal storage. If the storage is not enough for you, then the device allows you to expand the storage upto 256 GB via MicroSD card.
Coming to the photography department, the device has dual camera setup at the back and it is placed at the top left corner in the vertical orientation. The camera setup is in the combination of 12 megapixel + 5 megapixel with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, AI Portrait Mode, and LED flash. The device also has 16 megapixel front facing camera with AI Portrait Mode AI Smart Beauty, Auto HDR, and selfie flash. The device also features IR blaster to use the smartphone as a remote controller of your electronic appliances. Talking about the security, the device has fingerprint and Face Unlock features to give the maximum security to the users.
In terms of connectivity, the device supports dual SIM, 4G LTE, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C. The device runs on Android Oreo 8.1 which is based on MIUI 9.5, and the device is backed on 3,080 mAh battery with 5V/2A charging.
The company has also launched its latest custom Android skin – MIUI 10 in India, and confirmed that the Redmi Y2 will receive the software update.
Speaking about the pricing and availability, the 3 GB RAM variant is Priced at ₹9,999 and the 4 GB RAM variant has the price tag of ₹12,999. The device will be available on Amazon India and Mi.com from June 12 at 12:00 noon onwards, it will available in Mi Home Stores a week later.
