After many leaks & rumours of the Moto Z2 Play, Motorola finally made this phone official today. Specs of this phone are exactly same from what we got earlier from the leaks. Motorola also launched 4 new Moto Mods along with the phone itself. There are some improvements in this phone over it’s predecessor, & 1 flaw also which we will talk about in the later part of this article. So let’s have a look what’s inside as well as outside this Moto Z2 Play..
As you can see from the image below, the phone looks exactly same as what we got from earlier leaks. On the front we have earpiece, sensors, front camera, dual tone LED flash and Moto branding. Below is the 5.5 inch Display, main microphone and fingerprint sensor. On the top we have SIM card & MicroSD card slot and secondary microphone. On the bottom there’s 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C port. On the right we have volume rockers and power button. There’s nothing on the left. Now on the back there’s Rear Camera, Dual Tone LED flash, Motorola logo and pins for connecting Moto Mods. The whole body is made up of metal with chamfered edges as well.
Now coming to the internals of this phone, this Moto Z2 Play comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 626 octa core processor that’s clocked at 2.2Ghz with Adreno 506 GPU. It sports a 5.5” Full HD 1080p AMOLED Display. It comes in 2 storage variants, one with 3GB RAM & 32GB of internal storage and other with 4GB of RAM & 64GB of internal storage with MicroSD card support. It has 12MP Dual Pixel Rear Camera with f1.7 lens, laser autofocus, Dual Tone LED flash and a 5MP front camera with f2.2 lens & Dual Tone LED flash as well. It runs on Android 7.1.1 nougat out of the box. It has water-repellent Nano-coating support as well. It weights at 145 grams & it’s just 5.99mm thin.
These are the improvements over the predecessor, now let’s about a flaw of this phone. This Moto Z2 Play has 3000mAh battery. This battery is 510mAh less than the Moto Z Play’s 3510mAh battery. Motorola did this to make the phone 5.99mm thin, which don’t seems to be a fair deal. Most of the consumers don’t want a slimmer design at the cost of lesser battery. What do you think about this ? Do you need a slimmer form factor or a big capacity battery ? Do let us know in the comments below.
Now let’s have a look at the newly launched Moto Mods. The 1st Mod is the Moto Gamepad, which turns the phone into a gaming console and it is coupled with 1035mAh battery. The 2nd Mod is the Moto TurboPower Pack, which can charge the phone very fast with it’s 3490mAh battery. Then the 3rd one is JBL SoundBoost 2 Mod, which is not different from it’s predecessor. It’s just splash proof and available in many colours. Now coming to the last & 4th Mod, it is a Moto Style Swap Mod which supports wireless charging, the phone should be placed at the wireless charging pads while this Style Swap is sticked to the phone. The Moto Style Shell is priced at USD 39.99 and other three are priced at USD 79.99 each.
This phone comes in three colour variants : Lunar Grey, Nimbus Blue and Fine Gold. The price of Moto Z2 Play starts from USD 499 & will go on sale from later this month. It already went on sale in Brazil at 1,999 Brazilian Dollars. The global sale will start in July. Stay tuned with us for more information.
