Who would have thought a college project to reach out a quarter of the world and the guy who developed it to become the world’s biggest billionaire. Not even Mark Zuckerberg would have thought of this.
Social media giant Facebook has claimed that it has successfully gone past the 2 Billion mark in terms of monthly active users. This is the first time any social networking site to get past the herculean number. While the second place goes to Whatsapp which shares the space with almost 1 Billion monthly active users. What may feel as an irony is that even Whatsapp is also owned by Facebook group which acquired the messenger app for a whopping $19 Billion deal 3 years ago.
After announcing Facebook’s quarterly results, Zuckerberg shared some stats about Facebook’s user base as well and said that Facebook now has 2 Billion Monthly Active Users while also having 1.32 Billion people using Facebook everyday. Apart from this, 100 million members of Facebook contribute in any of the meaningful groups and they exchange about 2 Billion messages every month. Zuckerberg also mentioned that Instagram Stories and WhatsApp Status are now used by 250 Million users each day. Well, both these features are a copy of Snapchat Stories, and, it’s interesting to see that this number is more than the entire user base of Snapchat.
As far as the quarterly results are concerned, Facebook has revealed that it grossed $9.32 Billion during Q2 2017 in revenue, which is an increase of 45% year-over-year. The company also said that it had 20,658 employees as of Q2 2017 which is an increase of 43% year-over-year.
