Few days ago at the Annual General Meeting of Reliance, Mr. Mukesh Ambani announced its feature phone which is called JioPhone and vanished all the leaks and rumours. I updated all the important specifications, plans along with the availability information of the device on the day it was unveiled. For a quick refresh, here’s the specs details. The JioPhone comes with 2.4 inch display screen, along with the 4-way navigation buttons and the alphanumerical keypad (the traditional feature phone setup). The device also has 4 GB internal storage, along with 512 MB RAM. It allows you to expand the storage via microSD card, it also has 2 megapixel rear camera and VGA camera in front of the device. At the time, when the device unveiled there were no mentioning happened about the processor of the device. But now we have the information about this the, the all new JioPhone will be powered by Qualcomm 205 processor (205 mobile platform), which is made for 4G VoLTE connectivity. The device has a dual core CPU clocking 1.1 GHz, and it is backed by Adreno 304 GPU.
The Snapdragon 205 supports upload speed up to 50 Mbps and download speed upto 150 Mbps, the processor also support for HD video streaming and it also support for dual SIMs. Snapdragon 205 processor gives support for the features like FM radio, ANT+, Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n.
The device supports NFC, digital payments and voice commands, but the NFC chip is not activated with the device. It will be activated later on through a software which will allow user to make digital payment through tap-and-pay solution, with this feature you can also link bank accounts, UPI accounts and more to make the digital payment possible. And with the voice command you can perform actions like making a call via your voice commands.
During the unveiling of the device, I said that the device will be support Jio apps like JioTV, JioCinema, JioMusic and much more. Apart from this, the device also supports for the social networking app Facebook but unfortunately right now the device is not supporting for the world’s most favourite instant messaging application WhatsApp. The company may give support for this after the wide roll out of the device.
Now I will tell you, how to get the device. When the Reliance Industries launched the Jio SIM, there was a huge queue are everywhere in local retail shops or in the Jio retail stores. And maybe because of that huge love from audience, Reliance now coming-up by taking all the precautions to sell its JioPhone which is effectively free. So, here’s the procedure to own the device.
- The JioPhone is absolutely free, you only have to pay a security deposit of ₹1,500 and you will get the amount back after the period of 3 years. The company said, that the deposit is collected to prevent any unwanted activities. So be careful and don’t come under any scam to get the device by paying unwanted amount.
- The device will be available for the selected users at the initial stage, as part of beta testing. The beta testing will kick-off on the occasion of independence day- August 15.
- You can pre-book the device from August 24, and it can be to pre-booked from the MyJio app, visiting Jio retail store or from the official Jio Website.
- Goto Jio’s official website and you will see the banner of JioPhone, with a button called ‘Keep me Posted’. You will be taken to the ‘Register interest’ page, fill all information and you will get a confirmation mail from Jio team.
- The device will be available from September, on the basis of first-come first-serve.
